4. Get someone's attention in a conversation

A ping is a way to get someone's attention with an animation and sound.

To ping someone on desktop (MacOS and Windows):

Simply click Ping inside the conversation.

OR

From the menu bar, click CONVERSATION > PING or Click Command + K (on Mac OS X), CTRL + K (On Windows).

To ping someone on Wire for Web:

Click Ping inside the conversation.

To ping someone on mobile:

  • Choose a conversation in the conversation list.
  • Click More
  • Click Ping

When you ping someone, they'll see a Ping in the conversation view and in the conversation list. The conversation will also move to the top of the list.

5. Set a timer on any type of media

Timed Messages are messages that automatically disappear from conversations when the timer you set for them runs out. It works for both private and group conversations on Wire and there’s no need to create a separate secret chat. You can set a timer for anything — text, pictures, videos, links, documents, even pings!

Here's how it works:

  1. Click on Timed Message in the conversation
  2. Set the timer (from 10 seconds and up to 4 weeks)
  3. Write a message and send it
  4. To turn Timed Messages off, click the red timer to the right of the cursor, then toggle to Off

The sender will see a timer to the left of the message, and once expired, the message will be replaced by a scribble.

This is a perfect feature for sending sensitive data like credit card details, login information, and other private matters. Just keep in mind that the receiver is still able to take a screenshot.

From shortcuts to pings to timed messages, there are many ways to customize your Wire experience -like a pro.
