All conversation content is encrypted with strong encryption on the sender’s device and is only decrypted on the recipient’s device (also known as end-to-end encryption). Wire doesn’t hold the decryption keys, and our software contains no backdoor. Your conversations are yours — Wire has no access to them.
In addition, Wire also uses transport encryption to encrypt metadata.
Wire only stores encrypted messages temporarily on its servers so these messages can be delivered later to offline clients once the clients are back online.
Logs are kept for a maximum of 72 hours, for the sole purpose of facilitating troubleshooting, improving the service and preventing abuse.
When you create an account on Wire, we ask you to provide a name and a mobile phone number or email address. When you create a Team Admin or Team Member account on Wire, we may ask you to provide additional information for billing purposes and might share it with the billing provider if required. The profile data that you provide is used to provide and support the service, and might be shown to other Wire users when they search for you or want to connect to you. If you registered with a phone number or email address, they will not be shown to other users. Your personal information is only kept for the duration of your account lifetime. You can change or delete your profile information at any time. The legal basis for the processing of your personal data mentioned above is your fulfilment of the contract.
To make purchases through the Service using a Team Admin account, Team Admins will be required to provide a payment method and may be required to provide additional account details, such as a billing address, phone number, email address and zip code if required for tax reasons or by the billing provider. Certain types of personal information relating to the specific transaction may also be collected, such as transaction amount and time. The legal basis for the processing of the data mentioned above is legitimate interest.
For business prospects and accounts, we may also collect your name, email address or other contact information if you send us an inquiry related to our products and/or services. If you provide an email address for this purpose, Wire may send you one or more emails or other communications to provide information relating to our products and services and related pricing information. You can unsubscribe from receiving these emails at any time. Wire may use third-party tools to send out emails and manage the contact information. The legal basis for the processing of your personal data mentioned above is your consent.
If you provided an email address, Wire might send you an email to notify you of important changes (e.g. to confirm your email address or to notify you that a new device was added to your account).
If you gave your consent to receive emails related to announcements and news, you can withdraw it by unsubscribing at any time.
Wire stores additional technical data (such as the type of device through which you authorized the Wire application) to be able to route data between user devices. The Wire service is designed to keep additional technical data to the minimum required to operate the service.
More information about additional data can be found in the Privacy Whitepaper and the Security Whitepaper.
If you agree to give Wire access to your address book contacts, only hashed phone numbers will be used to match you with other users. The content of your address book is never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
Sharing data like address book contacts, anonymous usage statistics, and crash logs is completely optional on your part. You can opt-out anytime (see FAQ).
If you contact the Wire Customer Support, the personal data you submit might be kept for the duration of the resolution of the support case. For the processing of customer support requests, Wire uses Zendesk.
For business prospects and accounts, Wire may use Marketo, Salesforce, Clearbit, Calendly, DocuSign and Stripe to send out emails, management of the customer relationship, schedule product demos and ensure the billing of the service. Personal information is only retained for as long as necessary to provide the services or as permitted / required by applicable law.
Requests regarding your data, its protection and how it is handled by Wire can be directed to the Data Protection Officer (DPO) Alan Duric at firstname.lastname@example.org.
