In this episode of Wire Uncut, we spoke with Bozhena Pieniazek, VP of Marketing at Meister, a company building productivity tools for teams that want to move off pen and paper and away from Big Tech.
Meister builds tools that help teams work together in a clear, secure way. Their main product is MeisterTask, a task and project management tool. They also offer MindMeister, a mind mapping tool for brainstorming and planning.
Their tools are used by small businesses, schools, local governments, and larger companies across Europe. Some well-known customers include Ritter Sport, Allianz, and cities like Karlsruhe and Ansbach. Banks like LBBW and Volksbank Würzburg use Meister too.
These are organizations that want easy-to-use, secure software, and want it to be built and hosted in Europe.
Earlier this year, Meister surveyed over 1,000 German mayors about digitalization. The results were clear:
That top issue (regulation) is where Bozena sees the biggest opportunity for European tech to help.
Public institutions want to go digital but need tools that meet their privacy and compliance needs. Bozhena says that’s where the European ecosystem can step in.
Bozhena believes the biggest challenge isn’t the tools. It’s change management.
“People have been doing things the same way for years,” she said. “Switching to something new, even if it’s better, takes effort. That’s where we come in.”
Meister positions itself as a partner in digital transformation, not just a software vendor. They help public sector teams onboard easily, offer training in German, and keep the learning curve low. The result: teams can switch to a secure, EU-based solution, without losing productivity or frustrating users.
Meister is proudly based in the DACH region, with a strong focus on Germany. They want to be the go-to European alternative to Big Tech collaboration tools.
That’s not just talk. They’re part of Ecosia’s One Click Away campaign, which promotes digital sovereignty and European-made software.
Bozhena sees it as a broader responsibility. “We want to give EU organizations tools that work well, look good, and respect their values around data and control.”
Two things stand out.
First, the One Click Away campaign. It’s a key part of their public voice on sovereignty.
Second, they’re about to launch a new AI-native product. It’s still in beta, but Bozhena shared that the team is excited about what it can do and how it fits their vision for simple, secure, future-ready productivity.
Meister doesn’t just talk about supporting EU tech. They use it.
In marketing, they use Storyblok for content. For HR, it’s Personio. For localization, Lokalise. For GTM insights, Dealfront. And for expenses, Pleo.
On a personal note, Bozhena is a fan of Revolut and Lovable. Revolut, she says, is showing what European fintech can look like at a global level. Lovable is an AI-native company pushing European innovation forward.
