A Talk with Internxt: Rebuilding Trust in the Internet

Discover how Internxt is challenging Big Tech with secure, zero-knowledge cloud storage designed for privacy-conscious users in Europe.

A Talk with Internxt: Rebuilding Trust in the Internet

In this edition of Wire Uncut, we sit down with Fran Villalba Segarra, founder and CEO of Internxt, to explore the company’s privacy-first mission and its vision for a more sovereign, secure internet.

A Mission to Make Privacy the Default

Internxt isn’t just another cloud provider. It’s a bold challenge to the surveillance-driven status quo. Founded in Europe, Internxt was built to help people reclaim control of their data through zero-knowledge encryption, open-source code, and uncompromising transparency.

“Most people don’t realize how much they’re giving up when they use Big Tech platforms,” says Fran. “With Internxt, we’ve built a solution where privacy is the default—not an afterthought.”

Who It's For: Privacy-Conscious by Design

Internxt targets a specific and growing user base: people who actively seek alternatives to Google, Dropbox, or iCloud. Whether they’re using Brave instead of Chrome or Proton Mail instead of Gmail, they now have Internxt Drive as a secure replacement for traditional cloud storage.

The same goes for businesses, especially in sectors like education or law, where confidentiality is critical and trust in Big Tech is eroding fast.

Smaller Team, Bigger Impact

Despite being a team of just 30, Internxt serves nearly 1 million users. Their goal? To hit $10M in revenue by 2027, all while staying lean and independent. It’s a model that mirrors successful companies like Telegram and WhatsApp in their early days—proving you don’t need to scale headcount to scale impact.

Built in Europe. Powered by Sovereignty.

Internxt operates entirely out of the EU, using EU-based data centers and building tools aligned with GDPR and European sovereignty standards. Like Wire and Proton, they’ve received EU funding to fuel privacy-first innovation and create viable alternatives to U.S. and Chinese tech giants.

“Europe has to do more than regulate. We need to innovate too,” Fran emphasizes. “That means making it easier to build, fund, and grow digital sovereignty solutions here at home.”

More Than Just Cloud Storage

Internxt’s roadmap extends well beyond file storage. Their growing privacy suite includes:

  • Internxt Drive – Secure, zero-knowledge file storage
  • Internxt Mail – Encrypted email (coming soon)
  • Internxt Meet – Privacy-first video conferencing
  • Internxt Antivirus – A secure device cleaner

The long-term goal? Offer an all-in-one, open-source productivity suite that makes switching from Big Tech seamless and secure.

If Internxt Were a European City...

When asked to personify Internxt as a European city, Fran suggests either Paris or Barcelona: bold, full of identity, and built on a strong cultural foundation. It's a fitting metaphor for a company determined to make privacy both elegant and accessible.
