Wire Business Update

November 12, 2019

Commencing in 2017, Wire pivoted its focus from consumers to enterprises with a goal to provide the enterprises with the world’s most secure collaboration software. Our technology is now used by over 700 enterprise customers around the world. Wire has been selected by some of the world's most security-conscious enterprise customers after passing all of their rigourous security testing.

Delivering this kind of growth while continuing to invest heavily in new features and security required external funding.

In connection with the financing, our holding company moved from Luxembourg to the U.S., as we believe this will be helpful in future fundraising necessary to support our strong growth. Notwithstanding the foregoing, our current and future customers are licensed and serviced from Wire Switzerland, our software development team remains in Berlin, Germany, and our hosting is European-based. Our enterprise customers can deploy their own instance of Wire in their own data center.

Wire stands by its mission to best protect communication data with state-of-the-art technology and practice:

  • All source code has been and will be available for inspection on GitHub (github.com/wireapp).
  • All communication through Wire is secured with end-to-end encryption — messages, conference calls, files. The decryption keys are only stored on user devices, not on our servers.
  • Wire has started working on a federated protocol to connect on-premise installations and make messaging and collaboration more ubiquitous.
  • Wire believes that data protection is best achieved through state-of-the-art encryption and continues to innovate in that space with Messaging Layer Security (MLS).
